Title: Non-isolated 48V-to-1V Heterogeneous Integrated Voltage Converters for High Performance Computing in Data Centers

Presenter: Minxiang Gong PhD Student - Prof. Arijit Raychowdhury's group (Georgia Tech)

Abstract: The conventional half bridge topology for DC-DC conversion is not suitable for high voltage conversion. Consequently, recent advances in hybrid topologies have gained attention and show promising results for integrated in-package power management. In this presentation, we will provide a topology review of 48V-to-1V high voltage converters. We will start from the challenges of half bridge topologies, we will discuss derivations, features, design trade-offs and outlook of hybrid topologies. Finally we will discuss our first design of a 48/1V GaN based integrated fully synchronous buck converter where we measured >76% power efficiency with 13% improvement in FoM compared to the SoA. We will conclude with our ongoing research and plans. This work is done in collaboration with Dr Xin Zhang of IBM.
