Title: VCEC-VCMA and its integration with SOT

Presenters: Delin Zhang, Thomas Peterson, and Jian-Ping Wang (University of Minnesota)

Abstract: Voltage-controlled magnetization switching of spintronic devices is a candidate to realize ultralow-energy and ultrafast switching of spin memory devices. To reach these targets, we have proposed and developed novel voltage-controlled mechanisms for bidirectional magnetization switching of MTJ devices: voltage-controlled exchange coupling (VCEC) and electron depleted voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA). In this talk, we will update the recent experimental and theoretical results on VCEC switching of MTJ devices with the industrial compatible [Co/Pd]n multilayers, and also present DFT calculations investigating the extent of charge transfer from the electron depletion layer in the VCMA devices. Meanwhile, we will show primarily experimental results of the spin-orbit torque (SOT) devices with the integration of the VCEC/VCMA effect.
