Metrology and Materials for Spin-Orbit Torques

Presenter: Dan Ralph (Cornell)

I will discuss the results of several ongoing projects at Cornell. Some are aimed at understanding why different strategies for measuring spin-orbit torques give different quantitative results. Others are aimed at finding materials that can generate improved spin-orbit torques, either stronger torques with conventional symmetries, or torques with unconventional symmetries that can be more efficient in switching magnetic layers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.
