Spin to Charge conversion: A status report from Theme 2

X. Huang, I. Harris, L. Caretta, S. Salahuddin, D. Ralph and R. Ramesh

Theme 2 in ASCENT is fully focused on looking at ultralow power current and voltage based devices for Beyond CMOS.  A part of Theme 2 is looking at low voltage devices such as Multiferroics and VCMAs. A bigger portion of Theme 2 is looking at current based devices, specifically to switch the magnetic state for low power electronics. In this regard, Spin-Orbit Torque (SOT) based device elements are of significant interest. In our work, we are looking at specific classes of ferromagnets with metals and semiconductors with large spin orbit coupling.  The classes we are studying include tellurides and selenides as well as a large number of oxide systems. In doing so, we have discovered that epitaxial heterostructures have a much larger SOT efficiency compared to polycrystalline systems.  We will describe several families of oxide systems which are being actively pursued by our team.

This meeting is only available to the JUMP research community, such as Principal Investigators, Postdoc researchers, Students, and Industry/Government liaisons.
